So we made it finally. Wow didn't think when I wrote out those new years resolutions my year would go quite like this. How has yours been? Good I hope. Those reading this are obviously still here and that is something to celebrate. Have you heard that you have to get back up on that horse after you fall? Well when life [or you yourself] knocks you down, you must get back up. I'm sure there are some that feel like 2016 really knocked them for a loop. Whether it was professional, persoanl, political or otherwise you have to get back up. Even if the next time around it's with a net. Or crash mat as it were. Here is the story of the fall and the ultimate comback. I was working on the pole on September 10th and an hour and a half into my session I had the worst fall I've ever experienced. I broke my wrist and sprained my ankle. For 4 weeks I hobbled around on crutches while casted. That's another story all by itself because of how crutches are supposed to be used. I couldn't pole until my foot was better but you can't keep a fitness person down for long. Thankful for my speed bag and the gentleman 13 years ago who showed me some basic patterns on one. I couldn't walk but I could lean and hit. I was determined not to be sedentary and not to lose anything. I needed to keep up with my flexiblity and training but for me the best way to warm up had always been to pole. With the speed bag at least I could get warm enough to get a good stretch in. Not only did I not lose anything but check out that chest stand on blocks! Because of the way I was streching and the cast I decided to try this position with my arm stretched out. Those who know me well know how obsessed I am with not only this one move but also being able to do things on both sides of my body. If I had been hurt doing anything other than my favorite move on the "wrong" side of my body this fall may have devastated me but my backwards self was kinda proud of it. I called it the ultimate comeback only because not only did I get my left spatchcock back but I got it back with a different far safer entry. Maybe I'll post a tutorial on the move next. Happy new year; now find a horse to get on to! |
